Ozone

Oxygen in the air we breathe consists of two molecules of oxygen which have combined as O2.  Ozone is three molecules of oxygen, O3. It often occurs when electrons strike oxygen molecules and cause it to recombine into Ozone (O3) and Oxygen (O2) molecules.? This is what happens in thunderstorms, and you get that fresh air ozone smell.?? And it is also what occurs in ozone-producing air purifiers like the Ionic Breeze. (I love mine, I have two, one upstairs and downstairs.)? And sterilizers…when ozone comes into contact with bacteria or pollutants, the extra molecule of the ozone reacts with the pollutant or bacteria, killing the bacteria, neutralizing the pollutant, and using up that extra oxygen molecule so you only have oxygen left. Ozone is high in oxygen concentration and it has its therapeutic and medical uses.High frequency beauty devices, cousins of the violet wand and violet ray, rely on the ozone they produce to get oxygen molecules deep into stressed facial skin. A facial I had at a wonderful high end salon used an H 2O2 compound lotion on my face while using a High Frequency to deliver O3.My skin was definitely breathing during it.

Free electrons striking Oxygen molecules and causing them to re-combine into some Ozone molecules, is also a by-product of violet wand usage. You will recognize the fresh-air smell, and if around other violet wand lovers you’ll often hear them take a deep inhale of that first wave of ozone that reaches their noses, sometimes without even knowing they’re doing it.  Its just another corona discharge making striking oxygen with electricity; just like thunderstorms and air purifiers.We like our little lightning bolts better, though.

Ozone has its drawbacks in high concentrations. Like too much of any good thing, it can cause respiratory irritation. It will break down materials and cause oxidation (rust) much faster than plain oxygen will. Fortunately, ozone that is at our level in the atmosphere, breaks down rapidly. It combines with other oxygen molecules right away and makes more oxygen Did you ever feel energized after violet wand play? The oxygen level rises in an area where violet wands are being used, because the ozone is created and almost immediately turns into more oxygen.? But you do first get the ozone, and some people do worry that higher concentrations from a violet wand will be too much.

The EPA and OSHA determine ozone hazard by 1)how much ozone is present, in parts per billion and 2) how long your exposure is to that concentration. This diagram shows recommend levels for concentration over time. Toxicity for ozone starts at 10x the level at which you can begin to smell it.? Note Osha standards indicate that you can tolerate .1ppm 24/7 without any discomfort.

How much ozone does a violet wand produce? They can sometimes pump it out at a pretty good rate, especially if you have it up high and making a large spark streamer (bigger lightning bolts.) But as the ozone breaks down almost immediately, it has been difficult to measure output. We can however, measure concentrations, and have found that in normal use in a larger than a 10x 10 room, violet wand ozone concentration is at the lower range of yellow, no more than a thunderstorm…and this is even with closed windows ..because the ozone becomes oxygen almost as soon as it is produced.? Where you would begin to be concerned about violet wand ozone is using several wands in a smaller than 10×10 room without ventilation, and being in that room with them around the clock, such as working as an employee in that kind of concentration. A good rule of thumb is enjoy those whiffs of ozone and the increased energy from an oxygen-rich atmosphere around you. If you play for an hour and you don’t stop smelling heavy ozone during that time, open a window and take a break for a while.
